Australians on average are gaining weight. Lockdown restrictions across the nation are limiting our access to exercise, and with the upcoming winter season, many people will emerge from isolation heavier around the waistline. Extended periods of isolation and confinement can entice stress eating or boredom snacking. As temperatures dip, we can expect to spend long hours on the couch and in bed, which can contribute to weight gain. Maintaining a healthy weight has become further challenging due to isolating indoors. This is where Slimaluma comes in to help ease the long-term side effects of quarantine and winter weight gain. Most supplements only focus on miracle weight loss. The beauty of Slimaluma is minimising weight regain.

Slimaluma is a patented Caralluma Fimbriata extract (CFE) to help maintain a healthy weight and suppress the appetite when combined with exercise and diet. Caralluma Fimbriata is an edible succulent plant native to India and also known as a famine food. It was traditionally used by Indian tribes during hunting expeditions to suppress appetite and used as a vegetable when food was scarce. Caralluma Fimbriata is listed as a herb with non-sedative properties in Ayurvedic medicine.

Leptin sometimes referred to as a satiety hormone, plays a major role in energy balance and suppressing food intake. Recent studies suggest that leptin's role in regulating food intake works in hand with satiety peptides. Low levels of leptin can increase appetite and food cravings leading to weight gain. However, obese people have also shown higher levels of leptin which is not ideal as it leads to leptin resistance where the brain does not react to the hormone's appetite suppressing abilities. Leptin resistance also signals the brain to burn calories slower to conserve energy. Several human and animal studies have been conducted on the effects of Caralluma Fimbriata for weight management with results suggesting that the extract may boost the role of leptin in suppressing the appetite and reaching satiety.

Animal studies have been conducted on Slimaluma, which showed that the rats taking CFE had significant improvements in plasma glucose, insulin, leptin and triglycerides levels compared to the placebo group. Researchers concluded that CFE may help suppress insulin resistance and oxidative stress.

The latest human study on the effects of CFE on appetite control and body composition, which was conducted in Australia, is in its final drafts before publishing (Mallard. et al. 2020). The randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, which ran for 16 weeks, had adult test subjects aged 20-25 years old with BMIs above 25 (overweight) take a 500g dose Slimaluma CFE twice a day and were measured at the start of the trial and weeks 4, 8, 12 and 16.

At the study's conclusion, the test subjects' calorie intake, waist circumference, body weight, fat mass, android mass and leptin levels were measured. The group taking Slimaluma consumed significantly fewer calories than the placebo group (p<0.01) and had a reduced waist circumference of 2.7cm whereas the placebo group increased by 0.3cm. This finding is also reflected in fat mass (p=0.04) and android mass (p=0.24) with the placebo group showing a significant increase in both while the group taking CFE had no significant changes. Leptin levels increased from baseline in the placebo group while the CFE group levels remained the same (p=0.042), which suggests that the extract can act on the leptin hormone to control satiety.

Managing weight is not just about losing weight but also managing weight regain. This is where Slimaluma comes in. Slimaluma's CFE is ideal for use as a supplement for those looking to suppress their appetite naturally, including anyone at risk of becoming obese and people who have reached their target body composition and wish to keep it steady. Its appetite suppressing properties make it a suitable addition to modern Western diets.
